Barter Durgan & Muir was established in Petersfield over 40 years ago to provide accounting, bookkeeping and taxation services to a wide range of clients in Hampshire and West Sussex. The main emphasis was then and still is to provide a personal service to all clients tailored to their individual needs.
We offer a comprehensive range of professional services to a wide range of small and medium sized businesses and individuals. We are committed to providing up to the minute solutions for clients utilising the latest computer technology.
Chris Elsey FCA – Managing Partner
Chris trained and qualified with the firm rejoining in 1976 after a spell in industry. He became a partner in 1978 and assumed the managing role in 1998.
In addition to ensuring that the Firm continues to provide a first class service to its clients, Chris utilises his considerable experience in general practice to advise clients on a wide range of commercial and personal matters including business and tax planning.
Shirley Crockford ACA – Small Business Manager
Shirley joined the firm in 1974 as a trainee and subsequently qualified with us in 1980
She has gained a wealth of experience in accounting and taxation for small businesses together with personal taxation, and looks after a portfolio of small business clients advising on accounting and tax matters.
Shirley also heads up our small business department providing bookkeeping services, including vat returns, and payroll bureau services including advice on payroll and PAYE related matters.
Liz Doe FCCA – Audit Manager
Liz joined the firm in 1985 to complete her training and obtained her qualification with us in 1990.
She is responsible for a number of large audit clients and has developed considerable expertise in company accounting and taxation. She also looks after a portfolio of small business clients providing accounting advice and support including computer systems particularly Sage accounts.
Mark Harding MAAT – Accounts & IT Manager
Mark joined the firm in 1988 and achieved his AAT in 1995 He has a broad experience in all business accounting, including company accounts and audit, together with small business and personal tax.
Mark’s interest in computers and IT has led him to become not only our in house IT manager, responsible for the smooth running of the firm’s computers and software, but also to provide the Firm’s clients with advice on their systems and software with specific reference to Sage accounts where he has obtained the Line 50 Certificate of Competence.
Jenny Bryan – Personal Tax Manager
Jenny joined the firm in 1997 after a career in the Inland Revenue where she gained an in-depth knowledge of income and capital gains tax.
She looks after the firm’s large portfolio of personal tax clients dealing not only with compliance matters, filing returns and tax payments etc, but advising on tax planning and CGT matters.
